I am now 20 weeks along, half-way there! Though Bryon has not posted the video of our little girl I thought I should at least give an update on how Grace and I are doing. There will probably be a post with a bunch of pictures and the video to come.
I haven’t been sick, beyond the occasional meal that doesn’t
settle well, so I have been doing really great with food. My cravings are still confined to vegetables. I will occasionally think something sounds good, but I don’t think it is a “craving.” I try to eat a well-balanced diet, with the occasional chocolate or cookie. I have been worried I am not eating enough protein lately because I haven’t put on much weight. I only gained 4lbs. during the pregnancy according to my last doctor’s visit during week 18. A few days later I weighed myself on a scale that I have used for a couple years, and I weighed 111 lbs. My normal weight is around 107 lbs. This confirmed that I have only gained 4lbs. this entire pregnancy! Though I have tried not to worry about it, it is hard not to when sources say there is a positive correlation between the baby’s health and the amount of weight gained during pregnancy (though I am sure there is a limit, gaining too much weight wont ensure an extra healthy baby). And to add to the mounting concerns, though I am trying to not worry too much about it either, is my blood sugar level. I had a blood sugar level of 63 when I had a cholesterol test done for Bryon’s insurance. They say the healthy range is 70-100 for blood sugar. Bryon and I had eaten the exact same breakfast, I even had a bit more, and he was in the healthy range. I haven’t talked to the doctor about my blood sugar but I plan to during our visit next week. So now I have to make sure I am maintaining the right amount of sugar and protein. Ugh! On the bright side, my cholesterol was great! So that makes me happy.

Little Gracie is now 10 inches from head to heal and weighs 10.5 ounces now. It is crazy to think that she is that big in there! I don’t know how she fits! She can also hear now too. So Bryon and I need to be more careful about the tone of our voice when we yell at the dogs. I also would like to start putting music on my tummy for her to hear. We just need to get a pair of headphones.
By the way, what I thought was her moving around week 17 and 18 was definitely her moving. The day after I posted my thoughts, Bryon put his hand on my tummy when I thought she was moving and she pushed against his hand. So I was feeling her move! I now have noticed she is most active in the evening around 8:00 (which made it hard to concentrate during my final exam in audit last week). She will also randomly be active early in the morning and throughout the afternoon. I still notice her head is commonly pushing on the left side of my tummy. Currently, my belly looks slightly lopsided because there is a slight bump on my left side.
Everything has come and gone as expected during pregnancy, except one thing. My back already hurts! I thought this was supposed to be more noticeable in the third trimester. It stated a little here and there towards the end of the first trimester, and it has gotten pretty bad the last couple of days. It was horrible yesterday! I put our “White Flower Oil” on it last night because I couldn’t take the pain any longer. I need to start looking up ways to relieve an aching back I guess. If anyone has any ideas of how to help pass them along to me!
All in all, things have gone pretty well so far. Only a couple things need special attention, which isn’t bad. I will try to post things more often now that I am out of school. I just need to tie up a few loose ends with work this week and I am free for the summer! Yay!
I wouldn't worry too much about the weight gain until the end of the 2nd into the 3rd trimester when the baby begins developing fat =) Right now all their systems are developing and they're too small to obtain much of the nutrients you're consuming. That's something I worried about too seeing as I only gained about 5-7 lbs at the halfway mark, but I figure with both of us being so small, it's somewhat normal =) Glad you are feeling good! Hope this helps =)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your supporting thoughts! I am happy to report that I have finally put a bit more weight on. My belly is getting rounder and I have gained 5 more pounds in the 4 weeks between appointments, making a grand total of 9 pounds. I think everything is going along smoothly!
